I have installed ESET Cybersecurity for Mac OS X but it will not open

Issue

  • You install ESET Cybersecurity for Mac OS X but after restarting your computer the program does not open

  • No product activation screen appears prompting you to enter your Username and Password after installation

  • After upgrading to OS X Yosemite (10.10) ESET Cyber Security or ESET Cyber Security Pro will not open

Solution

There are two possible solutions to resolve this issue. Please start with solution 1 and only continue on to solution 2 if the issue is not resolved.

  1. Repair disk permissions
    1. Click the Finder icon in the dock located at the bottom of the screen and then From the OS X menu bar, click Go Utilities to open the OS X Utilities folder.

  1. Restart the computer and the ESET Cybersecurity Activation window will appear. Enter your Username and Password and then click Continue.
  1. Open the main program window by clicking the ESET icon on the menu bar and selecting Open ESET Cybersecurity or by clicking Finder  Applications ESET Cybersecurity.

  2. Click Update → Update modules. If you are able to download the modules update, or if you see the Modules have been updated successfully message then you have successfully activated ESET Cybersecurity.

  1. In the Terminal prompt enter the following command and press Return (Enter the command exactly as shown below. "$USER" is not intended to be replaced by your username for this command.):
  • sudo chown -R "$USER" "$HOME"

Figure 2-2

  1. You will be prompted to enter your login password (the password you use to log on to your computer.) Type your password carefully, though no characters will appear in the Terminal window your entry is being recorded. Once you are finished press Return.

If you are able to download the latest modules update, or if you see the Modules have been updated successfully message then you have successfully activated ESET Cybersecurity.
